Steel Structure Workflow – Steel Structure Component Processing (Part I)

Generally speaking, the process required to build a steel structure building is: design drawings – deepening drawings – Steel Structure Processing – steel component transportation – steel component on-site installation. Earlier we talked about the design drawings and deepening drawings, so the drawings are all completed, and then it’s time for the actual operation.

The production of steel structural components is generally carried out in the factory, including lofting, numbering, cutting and cutting, edge processing, bending and roll forming, folding, correction and anti-corrosion and finishing processes.

1. Lofting and numbering

1.1 Lofting

According to the shape and size required by the product construction details or the drawings of parts and parts, the solid body of the product or parts and parts is drawn on the lofting table or flat plate in a ratio of 1:1, and the process of obtaining the real length and making a model is obtained.

For complex shell parts and components, it is also necessary to draw and expand. Computer-aided design should be used when available.

1.2 Ingredient

According to the model, draw the real sample of the component on the steel, and mark various processing marks to prepare for the cutting and cutting of the steel.

2. Cutting and cutting

Cutting is the separation of the shape of the loft and the part from the raw material. There are three commonly used cutting methods: gas cutting, mechanical shearing and plasma cutting.

2.1 Gas cutting and blanking

The preheating flame generated by the mixture of oxygen and combustible gas is used to heat the metal surface to reach the combustion temperature and cause the metal to oxidize violently, releasing a large amount of heat to promote the combustion of the underlying metal by itself, and at the same time, the oxide is blown away by a high-pressure oxygen jet to form a narrow and neat slit.

There are manual gas cutting, semi-automatic gas cutting and automatic gas cutting. The slit width is 4mm for manual gas cutting and 3mm for automatic gas cutting.

The gas cutting method is the most widely used cutting method at present, with flexible equipment, low cost and high precision, which can cut various thicknesses of steel, especially curved parts or thick steel plates.

2.2 Mechanical shearing and blanking

It is achieved by punching, shearing, cutting, grinding and other machinery.

(1)  Punching and shearing cutting: When the thickness of the steel plate is > 12mm, the steel is cut by shearing machine and combined punching and shearing machine, which is fast and efficient, but the incision is slightly rough.

(2) Cutting and cutting: Bow sawing machine, band saw machine and other cutting steel are used, and the accuracy is better.

(3)Friction cutting: Friction sawing machine, grinding wheel cutting machine, etc. are used to cut steel, which is fast, but the incision is not smooth enough and noisy.

2.3Plasma cutting and blanking

The use of high-temperature and high-speed plasma flame flow to melt and blow off the metal and its oxides at the incision to complete the cutting, can cut any metal, especially stainless steel and non-ferrous metals with high melting points aluminum, copper, etc.
